Hollywood icon George Clooney unexpectedly withdrew from all scheduled appearances at the Venice Film Festival after falling ill. The 63-year-old actor, set to promote his latest Netflix project, Jay Kelly, canceled press events and public outings following his doctor’s advice to rest.
Just days earlier, Clooney had been spotted enjoying a sunny outing on Lake Como with his wife Amal, their children, and members of the Jay Kelly team. The outing gave no hint that he might be unwell. However, shortly after arriving in Venice, Clooney reportedly began experiencing symptoms. Sources say he first felt unwell on Wednesday morning, prompting the cancellation of interviews and promotional appearances. His team later confirmed that he was diagnosed with a sinus infection and placed under strict medical orders to rest.
The first missed event was the highly anticipated press junket for Jay Kelly, where he was scheduled to appear alongside Adam Sandler and Laura Dern. His absence surprised both journalists and fans, and the announcement that he would not attend left many waiting outside the venue. Clooney also missed the official press conference the next day, which went ahead with director Noah Baumbach and the rest of the cast addressing questions. Baumbach attempted to lighten the mood, saying, “Even movie stars get sick!” while reassuring attendees that Clooney was fine.
